Court Reporting the 2017 Criminal Lawyers' Association Conference

Since 2003, Neesons has been reporting the awarding of the G. Arthur Martin at the Criminal Lawyers' Association annual fall conference.

It Started with the 2003 Winner

The Honourable Fred Kaufman

In about 2000, I was contacted to provide court reporting services to the Honourable Fred Kaufman, to provide court reporting and transcripts of interviews he and Mark Sandler were conducting with regard to the conviction of Stephen Truscott in 1959.  We all spent a lot of time together, and I came to know Fred very, very well.  In the fall of 2003, when it was announced that he was to receive the G. Arthur Martin Medal, I called up the CLA and asked if I could report the medal ceremony, as I wanted to give Mr. Kaufman the gift of the transcript of this most prestigious award.  This transcript became an annual event thereafter, and the ceremony's proceedings are included in the "For the Defence" magazine every year.

One of the great rewards of a court reporting career is seeing so many of these recipients contribute to the justice system, and recording their contributions for historic purposes.  I guess it's all in a day's work in the life of a scribe!  The * denotes all the winners I have personally worked with over my 35+ year career in court reporting.  No one ever said our job was boring.
